"What is Writing and its Purpose?"

Introduction:

How can one consider oneself a writer? 🤔

Is it because you love writing long letters to friends during your teenage years? Is it because you habitually take notes during discussions or lectures at school or college? Or is it because you have a journal or diary about your daily activities?

Writing serves as therapy for some people, allowing them to put their thoughts on paper and preserve memories of feelings or emotions, like joy or sadness. It helps them see their feelings mirrored in paper or a notebook.

What is Writing? ✍

1. the activity or skill of marking letters, words, or other symbols on a surface, typically paper, with a pen, pencil, or similar implement,

2. the activity or occupation of composing text for publication.

My Attempts to be a Writer:

Reporter in a High School paper 📚

This was my first attempt to write as a reporter for our High School paper. It's normal to dream of becoming a writer when you love reading books.

My favorite subject was English class because of my teacher, Miss Myrna Vidal, and the substitute teacher, Mrs. Sarroca. Despite Miss Vidal's strict teaching style, I enjoyed learning in her class, and she taught us well. On the other hand, Mrs. Sarroca's teaching style is more fun. These two English teachers were my inspiration to become a writer.

Anyway, I didn't pursue it more seriously since I was in the graduating high school class and we had many activities at that time.

Contributor to Company Newsletter 📋

While working in the Production Department, I joined a writing seminar to continue my dream of being a writer. I was always excited at the beginning of this endeavor. I had hoped this would be my chance to be a contributor/writer.

Unfortunately, I could not continue my writing because the two Production lines I was in charge of had high targets. As a Line Quality Controller, I already have too much work to be done, and I used my skills to write the Monthly Quality Reports and Quality Control Circle Reports.

Blog Post Writer in Blogger 💻

I started this blog writing in 2023 with the guidance of my sister, Mylene, who writes her blog as "Cavite Virtual Assistant Mom". I struggled at the beginning with typing on the keyboard of a laptop. I am not tech-savvy, so I had to practice basic typing skills.

My first blog was about "Work and Life Experiences at EMI". It is easier to start writing about personal experiences at work. This is like writing an autobiography to reminisce and create a legacy of what you have experienced. I have also written three blogs about my overseas training.

I also wrote blogs for Book Reviews on books I have read, and Movie Reviews on movies I've watched on Netflix. I discovered it took me longer to write book reviews than movie reviews. Books take longer to read, while watching movies takes only two to three hours.

Conclusion:

Research studies have shown that writing activities give individuals intellectual, physiological, and emotional benefits.

The three benefits of writing:

  1. Improves memory function
  2. create feelings of happiness and contentment
  3. a written legacy

Medical research also shows...

"When people keep their minds active, their thinking skills are less likely to decline." It is beneficial to keep one's mind active as a person ages.

This blog post is written to share my message that, eventually, with hard work and perseverance, our dreams can come true. We are never too old to pursue our dreams, and it is better late than never.

I have researched and combined the basic information about the definition of a writer and writing on Google and the Oxford Dictionary.
