Introduction:
My sister, Melody, let me borrow the book "Atomic Habits" because she wanted to share the knowledge she gained from reading it. It took me a long time to read this book, to be honest. I was at Chapter 13, titled "How to Stop Procrastinating by Using the Two-minute Rule", when I started to write this Book Review Blog. Isn't it ironic?
The Two-Minute Rule states, "When you start a new habit, it should take less than two minutes to do." I will be working on this flaw in my habit.
Interpretation:
"An atomic habit is a little habit that is part of a larger system. Just as atoms are the building blocks of molecules, atomic habits are the building blocks of remarkable results." - James Clear.
"If you want better results, then forget about setting goals. Focus on your system instead."
This self-help book is a proven system for building on good habits and breaking the bad ones. It doesn't matter what your dreams or goals are, "Atomic Habits" offers a proven framework for being 1% better every day.
Book Application: 📕
How to Create a Good Habit: (Four laws of behavior change)
- Make it obvious - placing visual cues in plain sight to remind you of your goal.
- Make it attractive - a big factor in making habits attractive is engaging your dopamine response.
- Make it easy - pick one habit at a time, and do it daily.
- Make it satisfying - reward yourself for performing the good habit.
How to Break a Bad Habit: (Inversion of the four laws)
- Make it invisible - identify the cues and remove any triggers from your environment.
- Make it unattractive - associate negative feelings with the habit, such as guilt or shame.
- Make it difficult - add steps or obstacles that make the bad habit harder to perform, thus reducing the likelihood of engaging in it.
- Make it unsatisfying - reframe your viewpoint about the habit and highlight the benefits of breaking that bad habit.
